I was introduced to TJA recently because of a submission he sent my way. That song, “Deep End,” finds the artist struggling with people and his own feelings. He wants to be with others, but feels like being a loner’s a bit easier. That’s because other people and their fakeness drive him crazy to the point he’s, quite literally, going off the deep end. We’ve all been there, with varying degrees. What keeps many of us from succumbing to the darkness is taking a moment or two to reevaluate ourselves and our stances. I feel that’s what TJA’s getting at on this one, even if people push him towards a break of sorts.
Sonically, this track reminds me of a mix between Mac and 6LACK. He’s got lyrics for days, his flow is emotionally-charged enough that you’ll pay attention to it and his vocalization is pretty strong as well (albeit enhanced by layered vocals and a bit of Auto-Tune). The Flint, MI native recently released an EP that features “Deep End,” The Permanent Host. This four-song EP features deep songs and deeper feelings. If you like “Deep End,” I recommend checking out its parent EP and supporting dope music in all its forms.
