Jas, like a lot of artists, has been on my radar for a while–since her first SOTBMusic feature a couple months ago. Her latest project, the Love Letters EP, finds the twenty-something New York-based artist speaking her peace on a broken love. She’s got an ear for beats, but also a way with her lyrics. She’s got a whisper-rap sort of flow that works here, just as it did on her Moments album late last year. On the four-track EP, Jas presents us with four different aspects of love, from the foolish love and first sight types to the “I’m still pining for you after all this time” sort of love. And she does so with a bit of smoothness, a bit of recklessness–essentially like young love.
I’ve been there, which is probably why I’m here for this one like I was for Moments. Plus, her beat choice is pretty solid; it reminds me of a mid-2000s R&B album mixed with whisper-rap. In other words, to me, it’s a helluva project. It’s got me looking forward to Jas’ next full-length project. The young artist has a bright future ahead of her–as long as she doesn’t compromise her vision for anyone. Check out Love Letters below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
