I’ll be honest. Michael Laroy mentioned that a similar artist to him was XXXTentacion. I was admittedly a bit nervous clicking “Anxious.,” That was mainly because I know the wide range of sounds XXXTentacion covered. You could get something emotionally invested then get something a bit dark and brooding within the same range of songs.
My own anxieties were assuaged when he also mentioned Mac Ayres–and I just said “screw it” and clicked play. What we get on “Anxious” is two hooks and a verse of early relationship worries and jitters while also saying “hey those jitters will eventually go away and we’ll be fine.” The video is presented in a sort of acoustic open mic sort of way, with Laroy and his backing band delivering emotions–and the song, of course. I’m intrigued to see what Laroy does next because this one? This one was a great song, one that’s held up by its melody and its instrumentation.
