We’ve all been there–even if we’re not the first to admit it. An ex or someone we thought we moved on from finds themselves on our mind more than we’d like them to be. We want/need to move on, but there’s still something holding us back from doing so. Be it love, lust or a desire to not be alone, that person lives rent free in your mind. This is the premise of Kid Travis’s new song, “Rent Free,” as the song talks about a woman who lives in his head rent free–even though she’s not the best option for him.
I’ve been there once or twice over the last few years. It’s not a good feeling, but you eventually get used to it. That is, until you figure out what you really want from that person and others. Once you find what you really want, you’re free of that person living rent-free on your mind, and you can go and get something bigger, better and brighter.
I like the production on this song as well as Travis’s vocals, which remind me of a mix between Bieber and Weeknd with a bit of Bryson Tiller. If this is something that piques your interest, I recommend checking out the song and doing what we do here on SOTB. Support dope music in all its forms.
