This one reminds me of a track I did with DAR Elite back when it was just four of us, “’95 Style” from Exodus. That’s because of the throwback feels and the homages paid to that year/that era of hip-hop. AC Tatum’s “’95 Music” also is pretty personal, just like the DAR track. Bridging what exists now to what was at the top then, Tatum’s track channels his inner Nas with the storytelling and his inner Kendrick with the extended metaphor of the mid-90s being representative of a simpler–but more-authentic–time.
The Cali native’s bars here are solid and exist harmoniously with the throwback-esque production on the song. If, on this Sunday afternoon, you need somehip-hop that takes you for a nostalgic ride, check out “’95 Music.” It doesn’t just stick with the 1990. Instead, it also pays great homages to the era where Jordan still reigned supreme and Tupac was still among the living. Watch the visuals (which are equally homage-filled) below and support dope music in all its forms.
