Big Pause’s “Oh Brother” finds the artist delivering bars over a relatively-familiar sample to discuss his plight as an artist and a man. It’s a simple premise, one that’s made profound by his gift with the pen and his ability to rock this beat in a vintage sort of way. I enjoyed listening to this track because of the fact that the bars are easily-digestible, even though they’re dense in substance. It’s not just a bunch of “I’m better than you” braggy bars that go in one ear, out the other.
Instead, we’re given a remix of sorts that lets listeners know who Pause is. I like that, because it made me want to hear more from the rapper. His flow is vintage in a way, but it doesn’t feel like he’s just riffing on old-school flows at all. Rather, it feels fresh while sounding older.
