James Bailey Presents “GoldenBoy”

Rapper James Bailey recruits DWNLD and Frizzy Vazquez for “GoldenBoy,” a springy bombastic track about “letting ya nuts hang” that seems to draw some influence from the manga/OVA of a similar name. Considering what the Golden Boy series was about (a series about a horny slacker who actually has the ability to turn crappy situations into life-changing ones), I’m here for the contrast and references, no matter how random they may seem or abstract they may be. The song itself is more so based on a true story that could’ve went left in an instant.

The song speaks of a night Bailey almost got carjacked and how it didn’t really move him, probably because he’s built different from some others. That, in some ways, ties back in with the anime because of his inability to be shaken up. Again, I’m here for this–especially since Bailey lived to see another day.

Plus, the song’s a bop, plain and simple. It’s one of those things you like to hear because it’s kind of unlike anything you’ve heard before. It bounces all over the place, but is still laser-focused on its purpose. Check it out below and support dope music in all its forms.
