It’s not that often that I get to talk about legends. Actually, considering the track I wrote about from Cashus King and Blu, it seems to happen pretty often. Memphis legends 8Ball and MJG’s “They Don’t Love You” is exactly what you think it’d be: Memphis legends speaking on the BS in the game and how people are fickle. Over classic-sounding Memphis production, “Love” is one of those songs that you roll through your city blaring, saying “IDGAF if you like me but you will respect me–even if you want to try and take me down on your own path to the top.” This is the rap I grew up with, through crushes in high school and class presidencies and losses and wins. Don’t get me wrong: I loved 50 and more upnorth rappers, but that Memphis and southern rap? That ish had me glued to my speakers more often than not. So, I guess you could say this is a full circle moment. I mean, I grew up on 8Ball and MJG and now, years later, I get to talk about the latest track from the Memphis legends.
This is incredible for me, to be honest. Excuse me while I fanboy a bit and tell you all to check out the song below and support dope music in all its forms.
