Lex Rush Gives Us ‘Mad Max Martin Bars’

Okay, y’all know the deal. Lex Rush drops something and, because she’s both dope and the homie, I shut the hell up and check it out. It’s been that way for most of the time the entire time I’ve been running SOTB (and even before then because UMD legacies run eternal). Her latest EP, Mad Max Martin Bars, finds the rhymesmith spitting bars over some of the hottest turn of the century pop beats. She, as usual, touches a lot of topics–from sexuality, women’s rights, hip-hop and her love for the genre, and much more–over these classic beats and twists them up in a way that breathes new life into the classics. If you can put your pop/rap elitist caps down and accept her rhyming over “Oops I Did It Again,” for instance, you’ll get six tracks of rapid-fire lyricism and punchlines out the ass. Essentially, you’ll get Lex Rush at her best giving a modern twist to a lot of classic beats. This one has a special place in my heart because I’ve had a long-lost remix or five to some 2000s pop tracks. So anyone who can rap their ass off on pop beats? I’m here for it. Check out the EP out below on this Throwback Thursday and support dope music in all its forms.
