Kevin Maxim Covers Andre 3000 on “Prototype”

I covered this one a bit during one of the more-recent Quickies (volume 59 to be specific). However, I want to revisit the song because “Prototype” is one of my favorite Outkast songs from that era. It’s because it showcases Andre 3000 at his most-creative and his most Prince-like.

Now, Kevin Maxim’s cover is beautiful, because it’s more along the lines of something you’d hear from Three Stacks and D’Angelo with a backing band like The Roots. In other words, it’s neo-soul down to its socks. And it’s a lovely cover, one that doesn’t get brought down by cover antics and delivers an interesting and sonically-pleasing rendition of its base song. If you’re a fan of harmonies, the last minute-and-a-half will be for you. So, check out the song below (and check it out on Quickies) and support dope music in all its forms.
