Flower Child and Jah Born Present a Body-Positive Jam in “Blacks and Blues”

I like this song because it’s body-positive, pro-being comfortable in your own skin and anti-“let’s just glam ourselves up for the ‘gram.” Don’t get me wrong. There’s nothing inherently wrong with that, but I know a lot of people who prefer things to be natural and not manufactured. That said, you can get the body of your dreams without exposing it to the world or, you know, getting your body done. That goes for men and women (yes, I’m counting dudes who get hair implants and cosmetic surgeries in that category), which is the vibe Flower Child and Jah Born are seemingly going for.

To grow up and age naturally isn’t a curse. To have a little tummy or a butt that isn’t massive isn’t the end-all and cause to run to surgeons. To be balding (especially in men’s cases) isn’t cause for you to go get a bunch of hair plugs from the back of your head. Like, you’re beautiful and amazing just the way you are. That said, if you do go that route, do it for you–not for anyone else (and especially not for anyone else’s “standard” of beauty).

The video highlights these messages and tries to point out some alternatives while, again, also being body-positive. I love the positivity here and the overall inventiveness of the video (which reminds me of a Missy cut). Plus, Flower Child’s bars are also top-notch. Check it out above and support dope music in all its forms. If you like this one, the duo have an EP that just dropped called Solace that you should give a listen as well.
