Terry Jay Channels JID and J. Cole on “Ale”

“Ale” is one of those songs that’ll get you into the mind of the artist and have you saying “talk your ish,” all while also empathizing with his plight as young a Black man in America. It’s also one of those songs that makes you expand horizons and hope for better days. Life isn’t fair, but you keep pushing until you reach where you want/and need to be. That’s what “Ale” sounds like to me.

The track is a completely DIY effort, as Jay is “learning to do everything in-house.” I enjoy that aspect, especially as an artist who also tries to do everything myself. It’s a different sound from his last feature on SOTB, “Danny Phantom,” and it shows his growth as an artist. Check out “Ale” below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
