“Backtrack” is a song for all those people who hate when others take back things they said, as if that’s really going to make everything squeaky clean again. Sonically, it’s got a nice pop-rock sound to it reminiscent of Paramore and other late-2000s/early-2010s groups of that era. It’s loud, but not loud enough where you can’t vibe with it. It’s boisterous without being overbearing. It’s witty without winking to the camera, something that Emei knows how to do very well in her songs (be witty without the winks, that is). It’s something that made me write about her song “End of an Era” in October. The Chinese-American artist shows no signs of slowing down. If her 2023 is anything like her 2022, we’re going to be in for a treat. Check out the song below and support dope music in all its forms.
