“All I Want for Christmas is Bars” is, well, a showcase of lyrical excellence over a sample of “Santa Baby.” I love this one, mainly because it’s a song that doesn’t straight-up say that mainstream rap is the devil. Instead, it opts to put rappity-rap and trap/mumble rap together and says “we need more bars, less of the ‘out the mud’ sing-songy rap–even though that has its place as well.” I also loved the flip of “Santa Baby.” With the title, I almost expected a gritty, boombap sample of Mariah Carey’s Christmas classic. Thankfully, the trio here went another route and the song slaps. Check it out below, support dope music in all its forms and remember that bars are essential in hip-hop just as much as anything else.
