Ayoka Needs to Know if Her Lover is For Real

“How does it feel to be held accountable,” DMV singer Ayoka sings on her latest track “Need To Know.” The song, which gives me serious ’90s R&B vibes, is the first track I’ve heard from her. Her vocals remind me a bit of Aaliyah, which is always a good thing for me (it’s no secret that Aaliyah is one of my favorite artists).

Subject-wise, the track reminds me of something I’d hear from another SOTB favorite, Staasia Daniels. It’s less about the sexiness or the “[people] ain’t shit” energy and more about the “I need a whole love, can you provide it for me” energy. It’s always refreshing and welcome to hear a track more about aligning energies and aligning interests. Don’t get me wrong: I love the “[people] ain’t shit” songs, too. But R&B shouldn’t be just those types of songs.

Check out the song above or below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
