The best thing about this quarantine era of music is that there are some creative energies that may never be replicated. Chris Cassius and Deetranada have been busier than most, so the two of them collaborating makes more than cents. It just makes sense.

Corny truths aside, “Smackdown” is one of those high-energy tracks that you need to run back a few times to catch the references and the bars. Both artists give us wrestlerap in that Baltimore sort of way. It gets in your face and dares you to accept its open challenge, while also letting off the comparisons to wrestling royalty. Deetranada gives us a Benoit reference that is damn good; Benoit himself being a POS aside, the bar is dope. Meanwhile, Cassius’ melodic flow over the beat is top-notch.
Now, for those who do accept the challenge, they seem destined for a smackdown from two of Baltimore’s best and busiest artists. The production, handled by Owinillsin, is loopy and spacey–but it’s also ripe for heavy bars. Check it out below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
