There’s something about Jas’s matter-of-fact, whisper-esque flow that has grabbed me. The now twenty-two-year-old West Virginia native has a track dropping on Friday that I’ve featured on SOTB, entitled “Moments.” Her August release, “Emotions,” is another one that deserves a peep. She blends cloud rap, a half-sung chorus and DIY elements to make a song that’s oddly captivating and just as satisfying.
It kind of reminds me of a NighLawn track in that they both have that matter-of-fact, “this is what you’re gonna get” flow to them. However, where NighLawn’s flow is a bit more syrupy and thick and lays itself on your ears for the whole song, Jas’s flow is, again, a lot more whispery. It almost sounds intentionally unsure of what’s going on with her. That works to her favor here, believe it or not. While she’s trying to figure out what’s going on with her during a new love, she’s laying it all out there. She’s open emotionally and she’s not afraid to admit it.
Check out the track and remember to support dope music in all its forms. You never know where you’ll find a solid track.
