Canadian soul-pop singer Miranda Joan knows how to grab your attention, that’s for sure. When she’s not channeling Janet Jackson on her songs, she’s making love songs steeped in fun nostalgia. This ode to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is two things. It’s both a bop and a great, playful and comedic take on a “love song.” Paying homage to Johnson’s endeavors over the last twenty-plus years (damn, we’re experienced), “ILYD” showcases Joan at her best.
She’s sultrily singing about her experiences, Johnson’s career and what makes him one of the best leading men. However, she’s also doing so with her tongue firmly in-cheek. It’s an incredible song, one that speaks to the Millennial in me but also the wrestling fan. Heck, seeing The Rock layeth the SmackDown on candy asses was one of the reasons I watched during the Attitude Era. So, I get it–fully. Check out the song below and do the thing we do: support dope music in all its forms.
