I recently covered one of Kidd Called Quest’s releases with Ken-C, “Vanilla Ice.” KCQ’s latest LP, Kidd Called Quest on the Beat, features the NYC beatsmith crafting excellence for various rappers to spit on. It also serves as a “greatest hits,” so to speak, of some of his compositions over the years. On “Eyeceddatsh*t,” he creates a gritty soundscape for Vic Spencer to rap over. The beat is a trunkrattler with boombap vibes as well, which allows Vic to talk on his life, his career and his story overall. On top of that, it has a bit of an “idols become rivals” sound to it, as Vic speaks on Redman’s influence in his work–and how he’s coming for the spots Redman may’ve occupied over the years. It’s an incredible track, one that serves as a reminder that Vic has bars and that KCQ is a very talented producer. Check this one out below and support dope music in all its forms.
