New SOTBMusic: Tomcantsleep Provides a Dilla-esque Approach on "Sunday Fun Day"
I have, in my “hands,” a quick lo-fi ditty from Chicago artist Tomcantsleep. Tom, who’s prepping for his upcoming album Can’t Sleep, hit me with this one in an effort to bring some attention to what he’s doing. In other words, it’s the first single off the album. “Sunday Fun Day” is a lyrical barrage. […]

Guys, I’m conflicted. Azealia Banks has bars and can sing her hind regions off when need be. She makes solid music to dance your pain away while still getting a few thoughts in there. It’s just something about her troll-esque nature that always makes me second-guess checking her music–even if/when she’s speaking truths. It’s actually […]

The “I Got You, Homieloverfriend” track is a part of hip-hop history as much as boombap and mob ties (no, not those “Mob Ties”). Chicago MC Bless 1 is back with a vengeance on “No Looking Back.” Over a simple melody, he speaks truths into existence and abrasively reenters the bars scene. It’s a thing of beauty, truth be told. I mean, the brother’s not put out any bars-related material in years–instead opting to learn and master the production […]

Part club-banger, part Black People Magic anthem, “FIU” (or “F*** It Up,” if you’re nasty) is PHZ-Sicks’ new track. It’s kind of a mix between “Black Bonnie” and “Nice For What,” but feels completely organic in mixing the vibes. It’s celebratory and beautiful and all the other great adjectives you’d use to hype up a […]
